Police sources said that the accused woman and the boy are residents of the same residential society in Surat. Both knew each other since childhood (Archive)Two months after she went missing with a 17-year-old boy, Surat Police on Friday arrested a 19-year-old woman from Limbayat area of the city.
The woman has been booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita’s (BNS) Sections 137(2), which pertains to kidnapping, besides various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Police said the parents of the accused woman were forcing her to get married to another person but she wanted to be with the teenaged boy.
Police sources said that the accused woman and the boy are residents of the same residential society in Surat. Both knew each other since childhood.
When the boy went missing from his home on March 27, his father lodged a complaint the next day.
Limbayat police said that they checked the social media profiles of the missing boy and found that he was in contact with the woman. Police then recovered call details and found that the woman and the boy were in regular touch on the phone. After three days, the police team reached the house of the woman and found that she, too, had been missing since March 27.
On Friday evening, police learnt that the woman was seen in Limbayat area following which, a team reached the spot and caught her. The boy, who was also with her, was sent back to his family.
Limbayat police inspector K V Zala said, “The accused woman and the teenager lived in the same residential society. The woman’s parents were forcing her to marry another boy after coming to know about her ‘affair’ with the boy. She eloped with the boy on March 27 with cash amounting to Rs 25,000 in hand. First, they went to Ujjain and then to Jalgaon in Maharashtra. They stayed at a rented house in Jalgaon but after they faced shortage of money, they came back to Surat.”
