Vishwa Hindu Parishad international general secretary Dr Pravin Togadia will depose before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on May 10 at its office in Gandhinagar, according to the probe team. The VHP leader has been summoned for questioning in connection with the 2002 riots.
In response to a letter written by Togadias lawyers,SIT member A K Malhotra said his request for medical facilities will be considered favourably. The medical advisor accompanying him can be requested to wait in the adjacent room if the need arises. The SIT,however, turned down his plea to allow his advocates be present during the questioning and recording of his statement.
Togadias advocate,Deepak Shukla,in a letter dated April 30 to Malhotra, had alleged that the SIT was not only prejudiced but also pre-decided. He said the probe team had made false and damaging conclusions about Togadia.
Shukla further said that they had requested that the SIT enquiry be carried out in full view of videography experts, public and the media to ensure transparency, which Malhotra turned down.
Togadia, through his lawyers, had earlier alleged that Malhotra mistreated them when they had sought to reply to SIT summons, giving replies in writing, seeking the questions in advance and a copy of the SC order authorising the SIT to summon them.
