Two held at Navsari station with liquor worth Rs 48,000

Sources in Navsari GRP said that three men had boarded the train from Vapi on Wednesday afternoon and were travelling in coach S/6 with four bags containing IMFL bottles.

Navsari GRP arrested two liquor traffickers on Wednesday evening and seized Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) worth Rs 48,000 from them at Navsari railway station. The traffickers were travelling on the Saurashtra Janta Express train running between Mumbai and Veraval.

Sources in Navsari GRP said that three men had boarded the train from Vapi on Wednesday afternoon and were travelling in coach S/6 with four bags containing IMFL bottles.  Police sources said that the men had an argument with passengers inside their coach. The passengers, sources said, threw four bags out of the bogey at Navsari station.

Navsari GRP and RPF staff reached the spot and caught two of them — identified as Ajit Prasad, a  resident of Nani Daman and Amit Chauhan, a resident of Silvassa in Dadra and Nagar Haveli — while the third fled.

Ajit and Amit were booked under various sections of the Prohibition Act.  “There was a scuffle between the accused and other passengers of their coach. The passengers had thrown the bags containing IMFL bottles on the platform at Navsari. The consignment was loaded from Vapi by one Nanyo and it was likely to be delivered to one Pandit and his aide Haseena — both residents of Surat,” Navsari GRP Sub-Inspector N B Chaudhary told The Indian Express.
