In the run up to the 2014 general election,Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) is all set to restart its campaign for their long standing demand of constructing Ram temple in Ayodhya. For this purpose,the outfit is organising a Hindu Sangam or Confluence of Hindus in Ahmedabad this Sunday. VHP is also celebrating its 50th anniversary this year in August. In the event Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat and VHPs Pravin Togadia among other leaders will be sharing dais together that is said to be taking place after a gap of five years. In the recent past,both the organisations had developed differences over Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modis Sadbhavana Fast which was termed as an effort to appease minority. VHPs Gujarat president Kaushik Mehta said during the meet Togadia will announce an action plan. A media release by VHP stated that in the recently concluded Mahakumbh in Allahabad a large number of sadhus had congregated who appealed to restart the campaign for constructing the temple. When asked whether the event has any political undercurrent and if Modi has been invited,Mehta said,Everyone Hindu is invited to attend the event. The event is not a political one but since we live in a democratic nation we will pressurise the Parliament . Man held at Abad airport with foreign currencies An Uganda-based businessman from Kutch was detained at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport Friday for bringing foreign currencies worth about Rs 9 lakh by the customs officials. The passenger,identified as Govind K Tendoria,has a business of computer hardware and building materials in Uganda and landed at city airport via Dubai. During the baggage screening for customs clearance,the officials found something doubtful. When they checked it they found foreign currencies kept in his laptop bag. According to customs officials,the bag was containing $15,604,£200 and Rs 33,000. The total value of currencies is said to be about Rs 9 lakh. Officials said Tendoria was detained for the violation of customs baggage rule and Foreign Management Act (FEMA) as an international passenger cant travel with more than Rs 7,500 in cash. In terms of foreign currencies,a passenger is allowed to keep only $5,000 or its equivalent amount in any foreign currencies. Later,Tendoria was freed after his currencies were seized.
