Wife, in-laws of techie Atul Subhash seek bail in Bengaluru court following arrest in abetment of suicide case

Atul Subhash, a resident of Munnekola in southeast Bengaluru and a native of Uttar Pradesh, was found dead inside his apartment on December 9.

Following his death, his brother Bikas Kumar filed a complaint on the same day against Nikita Singhania, Nisha Singhania, Anurag Singhania, and Nikita Singhania’s uncle Sushil Singhania, leading the Marathahalli police to book them for abetment to suicide.

They have been accused of demanding Rs 3 crore to withdraw cases against Atul Subhash and Rs 30 lakh for visitation rights to see his son.

Nikita Singhania was arrested from Haryana’s Gurugram and her mother Nisha Singhania and brother Anurag Singhania were arrested from Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh on December 15. The trio were produced before a Bengaluru court and were sent to judicial custody after the arrest.

Atul Subhash married Nikita Singhania, a software professional, in 2019 and had separated. He was facing nine cases including charges of attempt to murder, dowry harassment, unnatural sex, and many others.

In some of the cases, his parents were also named as accused. Atul Subhash had left behind a 24-page death note where he had explained his ordeal and had also posted an 81-minute lengthy video before he died by suicide.

In the death note, Atul Subhash also alleged that a family court judge in Uttar Pradesh was favouring his in-laws.

“My brother has been mentally and physically drained since the court battles began. He was constantly mocked and told to die if he couldn’t meet their demands,” Bikas Kumar stated in his complaint.
