To enhance convenience and promote transparency in property documentation, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has launched a test run of its faceless, contactless, and online eKhata issuance system.
The eKhata system, which went live on Tuesday, allows property owners across Bengaluru to access their draft eKhata online, streamlining the process of acquiring property documents. The system is expected to reduce the burden of physical visits to BBMP offices and eliminate manual errors, ensuring greater accuracy in property records.
The draft eKhata has been generated based on BBMP records and is available for download from the civic body’s website (http://www.bbmpeAasthi.karnataka.gov.in). This online system allows residents to directly access property-related documents, reducing reliance on intermediaries.
To finalise the eKhata, residents need to submit additional information such as Aadhaar-based eKYC, GPS coordinates of the property, a photo of the property, the registered deed of the property, an encumbrance certificate dating back to April 1, 2004, self-assessment scheme property tax or application number, Bescom electricity meter number, and additional documents proving the property’s A-Khata status.
Residents without any of these documents can still obtain the final eKhata by physically meeting the jurisdictional assistant revenue officer (ARO) for manual verification and processing.
An important feature of the system is the seven-day period for residents to file objections in case of discrepancies in the draft eKhata. These objections will be reviewed and resolved by the jurisdictional ARO. Once the objection period is over, and if no objections are filed, the final eKhata will be issued, the BBMP said.
Residents can download the final eKhata from the same portal.
The BBMP will release training videos to guide residents through the process. It has labelled this phase as a test run owing to the extensive nature of the project rollout. The test launch will allow the civic body to gather feedback, identify issues, and refine the system further.
“This is a learning phase for us. We expect to make improvements as we gather more data from users. The cooperation of the public will be key to making this system a success,” a BBMP official said.
An eKhata is an electronic version of a property registration document.
