In a statewide operation on Wednesday, the Lokayukta raided several government officials and conducted searches at more than 53 locations across Karnataka in connection with 15 disproportionate assets cases registered with 11 lokayukta police stations.
The Lokayukta police searched four locations of HJ Ramesh, director (technical) BESCOM, chief engineer. The police recovered a two-wheeler and a four-wheeler, gold, silver, shares, whisky bottles and household articles, all worth about Rs 1.4 crore.
The police also searched 10 locations of Narayanappa, deputy director of factories, Ramanagara, in connection with the disproportionate assets case. The Lokayukta police recovered a list of movable properties including two motorcycles, gold ornaments, silver articles, household articles and cash (Rs 17,000), all worth Rs 22,50,000.
The list of immovable properties include one site, three houses, and 10 acres of agricultural land valued at Rs 2,35,26,000 (Rs 2.3 crore). The total value of Narayanappa’s assets were worth Rs 2.5 crore.
The Lokayukta police conducted searches against a total of 15 government officials including SD Rangaswamy, secretary, Kittanahalli Grama Panchayat, Bengaluru Rural; Pramod Kumar NG, Executive Engineer, BBMP South division, Bommanahalli zone; N Muttu, chief accounts officer, Mysore; J Mahesh, superintendent engineer, DC-development Mysore City Corporation; A Nagesh, Assistant Executive Engineer, MUDA, Mysore; M Shivashankara Murthy, senior sub registrar, Nanjangudu; Joint engineer, RDPR engineering sub division, Shimogga; K Prashanth, site engineer, Karnataka Neeravari Nigama Ltd, Upper Tunga Project, Shimogga; BR Kumar, labour officer, Udupi; AM Niranjan, senior geologist, Vikasa Soudha, Bengaluru; Vagish, project engineer, Nirmithi Kendra, Haveri; Jaranappa M Chincholika, executive engineer, KRIDL, Koppal; and CN Murthy, executive engineer, KIADB, Mysore.
In another operation, the Karnataka Lokayukta caught V Narayana, principal of Basweswar Boys High School (government aided) in Rajajianagar accepting bribe worth Rs 5,000 for issuing a transfer certificate and promoting a student to Class 10. Complainant Divya, mother of the student, alleged that the accused withheld the results of her son and demanded bribe to issue a transfer certificate and promote him to Class 10. The principal has been booked under section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
