Around 2.30 am on June 19, Khan allegedly approached the security guard Albert S, who was on duty on a street in the MLA Layout, the police said.

According to the complaint filed by Albert, the attacker brandished a knife and injured him with the weapon when he questioned the man’s presence in the area. A slash to his face left a deep and serious gash on his left cheek during the random attack, the security guard has stated.

The police registered an attempt-to-murder case under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code.

“The accused has been involved in two armed robberies in the Sadashivanagar and K G Halli police station limits and a similar attack on a security guard in Sanjay Nagar,” said an officer with the RT Nagar station.

According to the police, Tousif Khan is a habitual offender who roamed the streets of north and east Bengaluru late at night and randomly attacked security guards or people. Last year, Tousif Khan and his associate Tabrej attacked and a young couple at night under the Sadashivanagar police limits and tried to rob them. Tabrej was nabbed by the residents during the robbery but Tousif Khan managed to escape with a phone valued at Rs 14,000.

In another incident, Tousif Khan and Tabrej attacked a young man who was on a two-wheeler with his female friend near the Pipe Line Road in MSR Nagar in June last year. According to the police complaint filed by Yasir Shaikh, 23, one of the attackers grabbed his phone at knifepoint, while the second tried to take away his scooter. In the tussle, Tabrej fell from the scooter and was caught by the people in the vicinity, Shaikh stated. Tousif Khan was later arrested. The duo who were released on bail are currently under trial in the 2022 robbery and assault case.
