The conspiracy to target the Tanishq showroom at Manimajra was hatched around two months ago,interrogation of the eight men arrested in the case has revealed.
All eight,arrested on charges of dacoity,have been remanded in police custody till January 24.
The Chandigarh Police has launched a manhunt for another four men involved ¿ Ali Raja,Shahjad,Satinder and Naushad. Police say they have specific inputs on their hideouts and are raiding several places in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.
During interrogation,the arrested men have revealed that over the last two months,they had conducted an extensive recce of the area around Tanishq showroom.
Paras and Ali Raja ¿ both arrested ¿ had come to Manimajra around two months ago and studied the entire area. Another man,Vikas,who joined the conspiracy,was arrested by the Ghaziabad police on charges of preparing forged documents of vehicles.
They wanted to commit the dacoity in guise of policemen. Ali Raja and Paras Soni went to Delhis Azadpur to buy police uniforms and got six trousers,four jackets and six caps. Each trouser cost Rs 150 and each jacket Rs 275. Two shirts,police badges,stars and name plates were procured by Ali Raja from UP. A strip of Larpose tablets was purchased from Delhi ¿ they were used to drug the two guards outside Tanishq showroom.
On the day of the robbery,the men came in two groups till Ambala and then got into a Tata-407 (HR-55-A-3196) belonging to Paras Soni at Ambala bus stand.
They reached Chandigarh around 8.30 pm,parked the truck in the motor market,Manimajra,and surveyed the area.
After having dinner at a dhaba they got into the truck and covered it with a canopy. Six of them changed into police uniforms and struck the Tanishq showroom around 1 am. They told the guards that they were investigating a murder case,took them away from the showroom and drugged them. Initially,the miscreants attempted a backdoor entry,but when that failed,they broke opened the front grill.
After committing the crime,they all left for Delhi by NH-1. The vehicle was spotted by the CCTVs installed at Dappar toll-plaza.
Appreciating the efforts of both Delhi and Chandigarh police at a press conference,UT Senior Superintendent of Police Naunihal Singh said: Since DCP HGS Dhaliwal and I are batchmates and Delhi Police Commissioner and our Inspector General are also batchmates,it was a perfect coordination between Delhi and Chandigarh police,which helped us crack this case. Officers involved shall be suitably rewarded.
