3 arrested in Sec 7 robbery case

It was the mobile tower location of one of the gang members that helped cops crack the case

After tracking the mobile number of one Raju,police zeroed in on the gang which was involved in the day light robbery in Sector 7 on Thursday and arrested three members of the gang who confessed to the crime and gave the names of four others to the police. Police raided a place in Saharanpur in UP and met with a stiff resistance from the gang members and during the scuffle one officer suffered injuries.

Police said,it was the tower location of one of the brothers of the mastermind of the gang,that helped them crack the case. Police said that Raju had worked as a domestic help at the residence of the family from 23 July to 30 July before he went to his hometown in Gonda,Uttar Pradesh. There he planned the crime with his relative Jagram.

The robbery was carried out by the gang at the Sector 7 house of retired executive engineer,Jagannath. Police got leads on the case the same day.

After putting the mobile number on surveillance,police took the help of the UP police to reach the place in Saharanpur. On launching a search,police found the gates of the house where the accused were hiding locked from outside.

Police finally managed to catch hold of three accused,who have been identified as Ram Vilas,Jagram and Raju. The arrests were made around 4 am on Friday,police said,adding that during the entire operation one of the assistant sub inspectors who is also the incharge of the Sector 7 police post,Gurmail Singh,suffered injuries. All other gang members are from Gonda and Saharanpur and police raids continued till on Friday. The arrests came in less than 24-hours of the incident.

Police said,Raju,was sent by one of the daughters of the elderly couple who lives in Gobindgadh area of Punjab to work at her father’s residence and remained on the job for sometime.

Police Commissioner Panchkula-Ambala range,Rajbir Deswal,said that in the robbery a total of seven people were involved. He said that the robbers carried out the recce of the house earlier before one of them got into the house and looted jewelery and cash. Cash of Rs 3 lakh besides jewelery worth Rs 5 lakh was looted.

Police said,initially,Raju worked out the plan of striking at the house in collaboration with Jagram. Then they roped in other people to help execute the crime. On 21 August they left Saharanpur and came to the city and fled back before striking at the Sector 7 house. Initially,it seemed that there were only 2 people involved in the robbery,but investigations revealed that seven people were involved. Only one of them got in while the others stood outside to watch for alerts.
