3 buses burnt after fatal accident

After the accident,an irate mob set alight the bus that was parked nearby. The locals blocked traffic on the road,and refused to remove the bodies of the deceased ¿ Kashmir Singh (35) and Harpreet Singh (25). When another bus belonging to the same company reached the spot,the mob burnt it as well. A police vehicle that reached the spot met a shower of stones,and the cops had to turn tail promptly in the same vehicle. The mob attacked another bus nearby and the violence did not abate till the arrival of a bigger police team that used lathi-charge to disperse the crowd. “It happened when the police were trying to pacify agitators and another group attacked the bus,” said SSP Amritsar (Rural) Gurmit Singh Chauhan.

Locals said they were angry about the string of accidents caused by private buses,mostly owned by influential politicians and driven by men who have no fear of the police. “This bus was running in the wrong lane. There is no one to control these reckless drivers and the police fears them,” said Joga Singh,father of Harpreet. “Harpreet had recently completed a computer course and he was to start work at the Airport today. He was so happy,” said a woman relative. “A case has been registered. We will also book those who have damaged private and public property,” said the SSP.
