A five-day workshop on sensitivity,awareness,motivation and capacity building,organised by the department of psychology and women cell of DAV College,for women managers in higher education,concluded on Sunday. Prof Raj Hans Gill was the guest of honour at the valediction ceremony.
The workshop was attended by around 30 participants from Panjab University campus and local colleges. Various manuals like women and governance,women studies prospective,women and academic leadership,personal and professional roles,women and research,were discussed.
Dr Shruti Shourie,coordinator of the workshop,hoped that workshop would help women in higher education to equip themselves with skills to sail through their personal and professional lives with ease. The goal of the workshop was to facilitate the constituencies of women faculty,administration and staff,within the higher education system,to increase the participation of women in higher education management and ensure gender balance. There were brainstorming discussions and questions were raised like why there are not sufficient women in the Senate and Syndicate in spite of many women teachers in university and colleges,how women have to conduct themselves in attending meetings of decision making bodies etc.
