Once found limping on a road with an amputated leg below the knee oozing with blood,12-year-old Ajay has been saved by Sankalp,a society of students of Post Graduate Government College (PGGC) in Sector 11. The son of a rickshaw puller,Ajay was suffering from an acute bone infection in his left leg.
After two major operations in PGIMER and one in the Government Multi Speciality Hospital,Sector 16,Ajays leg was amputated above his knee thanks to efforts by the organisation.
Medicines,appointments with the doctors and all other needs of the patient were taken care of by the donations made by the teachers and students of the college, said Sukhwinder Kaur,teacher in-charge of Sankalp.
Aakriti Negi,a first-year student of Masters in Social Work,PU has helped children from a weak financial background to avail their right to education. Thanks to Aakriti,two children of migrant labourers who were earlier forced to do child labour can now avail of education.
11-year-old Neelam and 10-year-old Anshu whose mothers work as domestic helps were admitted in the Government High School in Sector 52,Chandigarh. Their fathers work as labourers on daily wages.
