When Abhijeet Chadha tees off on the greens of Chandigarh Golf Club on Tuesday during PGTI players’ Championship,it will be for the first time that 20-year-old local golfer will be seen in action at the professional circuit on his home course. Earlier this year,Abhijit bagged his first title in the professional circuit in the form of the Surya Nepal Masters while playing in only his second tournament. Back in action after few months, the Chandigarh lad is hopeful that he can add another feather to his cap at the PGTI event.
I have always relished playing at the Chandigarh Golf Club. Moreover,it brings luck to me. I had a lovely outing last time when I won a title in the amateur category. Playing on the home course always raises confidence levels as you are familiar with the conditions. We practised today and the course played well. It’s little hot but the windy conditions will suit my playing style. Before this I played in two tournaments in Pune and the weather was almost the same there. A lot of my fellow golfers like Sujan Singh and Harendra Gupta will also be playing in the tournament and I am hoping to do well,” shared Chadha, who finished eighth and 19th in the PGTI tournaments played at Pune.
The PGTI Players’ Championship will see the participation of Chandigarh golfers like Sujjan Singh,Amandeep Johl,Ajeetesh Sandhu,Harmeet Kahlon and Gurbazz Mann apart from players like Mukesh Kumar,Gaurav Ghei and Chiragh Kumar.
The tournament offers a prize money of Rs 20 Lakh and Chadha expects to finish in top-three in the championship. “Harmeet has been a regular at the Chandigarh Golf Club and we often seek tips from him. Ajeetesh has been doing well at the local circuit and it will be tough challenge competing against them,” said Chadha.
