It took an anonymous complaint letter, sent to the department of hospital administration,to streamline the functioning of the emergency wing of the Government Multi Specialty Hospital ,Sector 16.
Very soon, the mobile numbers of specialist doctors and those on emergency duties would be displayed along with their names in Hindi,Punjabi and English,on the walls of the emergency wing.
Officials in the hospital administration say that the decision to provide mobile numbers of doctors was taken after it was noticed that many times some doctors had been found absent from their duties and certain patients had complained about this matter as well.
It was noticed that the doctors were not on duty on many occasions and other doctors were filling in for the absentees, causing considerable inconvenience to patients. So it was best to provide the numbers of the doctors so that patients valuable time could be saved, said a senior functionary of the hospital.
Also,is has been decided by the hospital administration to put up three complaint boxes in the hospital including one outside the emergency wing for the patients convenience.
Sources in the hospital said that it was about a fortnight back that a two-page detailed complaint written by the mother of a patient reached the office.
The complaint mentioned that how the patient,a teenage boy,was refused an x-ray by the technician on duty.
The technician had told the duo that it was not an emergency case and he would not conduct the x-ray of the boy,who was writhing in pain.
The complainant had further alleged that when she told the technician that the doctor in the emergency wing had sent her there to get the x-ray done, and requested the technician to do the x-ray,he refused point blank and told the duo that the boy should bear the pain till the next day and it was not a serious case.
Sources in the hospital said that the department has also decided to sensitise the paramedical staff including technicians, after this incident.
Last year,Bulbul,a pregnant migrant lost her baby when she delivered standing in the queue with no body from the hospital guiding her.
Post the Bulbul incident, the hospital administration was making all efforts to ensure that no untoward incident happens by bridging the gap between the patients and the medical officers.
