In yet another addition to the list of those leaving Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) ahead of January 30 Assembly polls,SAD general secretary Balwinder Singh Saifdipur on Thursday resigned from the party and decided to contest as an Independent from Ghanaur. SAD has given ticket to Harpreet Kaur Mukhmailpur, wife of district president Ajaib Singh Mukhmailpur, from Ghanaur.
Saifdipur, who had deserted Congress to join Akali Dal in 2006,said he deserved a ticket for his services to the party.
Impressed by the huge gathering when I joined Akali Dal,Parkash Singh Badal made me the general secretary of the party in 2006, said Saifdipur.
Claiming that despite holding such a position in the party,he was not considered for the ticket,he added: I am directly in touch with 25 thousand people in the area.
Voices of rebellion are emerging thick and fast both from the areas where SAD has already allotted tickets and from where it is likely to decide in favour of particular candidate.
Sirhind MLA Didar Singh Bhatti is up in arms against the likely candidature of SAD general secretary Prem Singh Chandumajra from the newly carved Fatehgarh Sahib Assembly constituency.
He projects himself as the ideal candidate for SAD from the constituency.
Similarly, allotment of tickets to Gobind Singh Kanjhla for Mehel Kalan and to Iqbal Singh Jhunda for Amargarh constituencies have not gone down well with sections of the Akali leadership, which has raised the banner of revolt against the allotment of tickets to them.
On Wednesday,SAD leader and former parliamentary secretary Surinder Singh had resigned from the party to protest against the allotment of ticket to Gobind Singh Longowal from Dhuri.
