A 1994 batch IAS officer of Haryana cadre, Anurag Agarwal, 47, is set to become the city’s new home secretary as the appointment committee of the cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi cleared his name on Tuesday.
He would replace incumbent Home Secretary Anil Kumar, a 1988 batch Haryana-cadre officer, whose three-year term lapsed last month.
The Haryana government had proposed names of three officers for the UT home secretary’s post, namely Anurag Aggarwal, Rajbir Singh (1995 batch) and Rajive Ranjan (1998 batch).
Sources said the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has already notified the decision of the appointment committee of the cabinet for inter-cadre deputation of Agarwal from Haryana to Chandigarh for three years as Home Secretary, and sent it to the Ministry of the Home Affairs for issuing the final appointment order, which is likely by Wednesday.
Agarwal holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from BITS-Pilani and a post-graduation degree in International Business from the Indian institute of Foreign trade, New Delhi. Currently posted as the MD of Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited, he has served as the deputy commissioner of Kaithal and Gurgaon and MD of all major power sector companies in Haryana.
Talking to Newsline, Anurag said that his priority would be to ensure people-centric administration. “We will try and work for the development of the city,” he said.
