Maid commits suicide in Sector 10

Chandigarh: A maid committed suicide at her employer’s residence at Sector 10 today. Rani was found hanging at the residence of Pankaj,an advocate of Punjab and Haryana High Court,at about 8 am. She was working there for the last five years. No suicide note could be recovered. She was taken to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital in Sector 16 where doctors declared her brought dead. The body has been kept in the hospital mortuary and will be handed over to Rani’s family after postmortem. SHO Sector 3 police station inspector Mahavir Singh claimed that there was no foul play. But the police was yet to ascertain the motive behind the suicide.

Woman killed,son hurt in mishap

KHARAR: A woman was killed while her son sustained serious injuries when a motorcycle,on which they were riding,was hit by a recklessly driven car on the Kharar-Ropar stretch of National Highway 21 near Lakhnaur village,the police said here today. Promila Devi of Ward 7,Kurali,was declared dead on arrival while her son Sunil Kumar was struggling for life at the hospital,the police said. Kumar told the police that when they reached near a petrol pump in Lakhnaur village at around 10.40 am,a speeding car rammed into their bike and sped away before anyone could even note down its registration number. The police have booked the unknown car driver for causing death and injuries by rash and negligent driving under Sections 279 and 304-A of the IPC but no clue of the accused was found as yet.

PU evening studies admissions open

CHANDIGARH: The department of evening studies has admissions open in courses for humanities,commerce,social sciences and languages. In the context of the recently added constitutional provision of “Right to Education”,the department ensures that students from the deprived sections of society have access to higher education. There is also a provision for the teaching students five languages: English,Hindi,Punjabi,Sanskrit and Urdu. The last date for form submission July 4. The courses are: BA,B Com ,MA in English,Political Science,Punjabi,History and Economics.

Interview to be held in PU for library science course

Chandigarh:The date of interview for admission to the first year of Master of Library and Information Science (M Lib I Sc),a two year integrated course is July 12 at 10 am in the department of library and information science,arts block no IV,Panjab University campus,said Dr Promila,chairperson of the department.
