Delhi Public School wins dance contest

Chandigarh: Delhi Public School,Sector 40 emerged as the winner at the Folk Dance Competition held in school premises on Monday,under the ongoing Fanta Fiesta 2011 contest. A total of 23 teams from Chandigarh,Panchkula,Mohali,Rajpura,Pinjore,Nabha and Ambala participated in the Dance Competition which was held at Delhi Public School. The teams performed a variety of folk dances from national and international regions. The dance forms included Oriya,Gypsy,Arabian,Bhangra,Giddah,Haryanavi and Kalbeliya.

Sec 144 in Panchkula for judicial exam

Panchkula: With a view to ensure the free and fair conduct of HCS (Judicial Branch) Preliminary Examination for the post of Civil Judge (Junior Division) by Haryana Public Service Commission,District Magistrate Ashima Brar has imposed Section 144 of CrPc within the limits of the examination centres. The exam will be held on September 4. Brar said that Section 144 would remain in force during the examination hours on September 4,2011 and copying in the examination,carrying of weapons like firearms,swords and other weapons would be strictly prohibited within the area of 200 meters around all the examination centres.

Textbook scam accused sent to judicial custody

Sas Nagar: Deshraj,Publication Officer in the Punjab School Education Board(PSEB),who was arrested in the PSEB textbook scam case was presented in the Mohali District Courts today. He has been remanded to judicial custody. He was been arrested on the charges of cheating,fraud and forgery along J S Rahi,former Deputy Director of the board.

‘Keep drugs off SGPC polls’

Chandigarh: The chief commissioner,Gurdwara Election has directed that the UT Administration should ensure that the parties or their supporters should not distribute drugs like poppy husk,heroine,etc to the voters for alluring them to vote for a particular candidate. In wake of the elections of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) it has further been directed that necessary steps be taken to ensure that there is no movement of liquor or other intoxicants from the adjoining states. The Election Commission has directed that only Keshdhari voters be allowed to cast their vote. The voters would be required to carry their identity cards.

Workshop on injury prevention held

Chandigarh: The first ever national workshop on injury prevention and control commenced at Government Medical College and Hospital,Sector 32 today. This workshop was held in collaboration with Ministry of health and family welfare and was sponsored by WHO.
