The city police on Saturday filed a chargesheet at a district court in the alleged kidnapping of the 17-year old Carmel Convent School student,which took place in October last year.

Chandigarh: The city police on Saturday filed a chargesheet at a district court in the alleged kidnapping of the 17-year old Carmel Convent School student,which took place in October last year. Police have named five persons including Inderjeet Malik,his father Surinder Malik,mother Paramjeet,Dr Sangeeta and Kamal in the chargesheet. The five have been charged with kidnapping and furtherance of common intention.

World Earth Day celebrated

Chandigarh:To mark World Earth Day and Global Youth Service Day,the NGO Yuvsatta in association with Department of Environment and Earth Day Network organised the 7th Inter-School Bicycle Games. Around 500 students from 30 schools participated in various events. Pramod Sharma,coordinator,Yuvsatta said every year,to promote the culture of cycling in the city,the NGO organised these fun games.

Cheating case registered

Chandigarh:A case of cheating has been registered against the employee of a Hyderabad-based hotel following a compliant from Sector 38 resident Ashwani Kumar Sehgal. He alleged that M D Mukaram Ali,a hotel employee in Hyderabad cheated him through e-mail and later transferred Rs 19,602 cash from his SBI account. A case of cheating,criminal conspiracy under the Information Technology(IT) Act has been registered at the Sector 39 Police Station.

Activist seeks PM help to upgrade hospital

Patiala:Ved Parkash Gupta,a social activist and the former chairman of the Patiala Improvement Trust,in a communication to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal,has demanded that the Government Rajindra Hospital be developed into a multi-speciality hospital to meet the healthcare needs of the people of Punjab. In his communication,Gupta has pointed out that a large number of patients rush to the Post Graduate Institute of Research and Medical Science in Chandigarh for specialised healthcare from the adjoining states. Gupta has stated that the Government Rajindra Hospital has the required infrastructure. He has urged the Punjab government to handover the building and other infrastructure to the Centre and the latter should provide financial help to run the hospital.
