The Punjab Assembly session ended within 18 minutes on Thursday after reading out obituary references. As House proceedings started at 10 am,Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal announced that as discussed in the business advisory committee meeting on Wednesday, the House will adopt the system followed in the Lok Sabha in regard to paying tributes. Earlier, the tradition was that the first the chief minister will pay tribute, followed by the leader of opposition, then leaders of other parties and independents and at last, the Speaker. Thus,it used to take about an hour to pay tributes. In the lok sabha, only the Speaker reads the obituary references and no one else. We have decided to follow the same system, said Atwal.
