Assets declaration: CJ Joseph owns Esteem car,saving of Rs 13,000

The assets of the judges are broadly categorised as land,buildings,bank deposits,gold and silver,vehicle,and share and mutual funds. The details of GPF are also available.

A close look at the assets of the most judges show that none of them are prosperous.

Justice R B Misra,who is the next senior most judge in the High Court,has land and ancestral property at three places and other immovable property like a three-room flat in Delhi,a plot allotted in a cooperative housing society in Noida,UP,and Fiat Car of 1984 model his personal vehicle.

Justice Deepak Gupta does not have any personal vehicle or building. He has a share in an apple orchard at Karsog in Mandi district.

Judges,whose assets and liabilities are posted included Justice Deepak Gupta,Justice Surjit Singh,Justice V K Ahuja,Justice S S Thakur,Justice D D Sood,Justice Sanjay Karol,Justice Kuldeep Singh,Justice Rajeev Sharma and Justice V K Sharma.

A decision to declare assets and liabilities was taken by the full bench of the High Court last year and after Justice Kurian took over,he announnced his priority.

In fact,the Kerala High Court,where Justice Kurian was the acting Chief Justice,was the first to declare assets of the judges followed by Delhi High Court. Till now five High Courts,including Punjab and Haryana,have declared the assets of the judges.

Justice Joseph also inaugurated a media centre in the court complex today.
