A case was registered against an auto driver who allegedly sped away after hitting two constables who tried to stop him at the light point of Sector 36/37 after he reportedly jumped a signal.
According to the victim,head constable Kadam Singh,the auto jumped the red light and when Singh signalled him to stop. Singh came in front of the auto,and the driver did not stop. Since he was holding on to it,Singh was dragged along with the auto before he fell.
Seeing this another constable named Rajneesh tried to catch the auto but he was also dragged. When I saw him (Kadam Singh) being dragged,I ran and tried to catch the driver. I held the auto but the driver took a sudden turn because of which I fell,after which he sped away.
Deputy SP Surjit Singh Malik said,We are looking for the driver. We have the registration number and very soon the accused will be arrested.
However,we have given clear instruction to all our officers and personnel that they should be cautious while checking and give preference to their safety, he added.
