Will the Dabas couple get it right with their maiden venture Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande?
Actor Preeti Jhangiani and actor husband Parvin Dabbas have turned producer and director respectively, coming out with their first film under their own Very Fishy Films banner. Ideally,a press meet promoting their maiden venture Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande should have focused on the two: how the couple maintained a professional attitude at work, how it was all planned and rehearsed to the tee,and how the two are testing the waters of Bollywood. But there is more to their debut venture which releases on the 19th of this month, than the Mister and the Mrs behind it.
Watch the promo, and it becomes apparent that Dabbas and Inc. have given it their best shot. Armed with a high energy wrestling sequence, some leg-breaking and back-cracking fights and colourful dialogues straight from the heartland,Dabas believes Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande will work for him, because we are in the open phase of Indian cinema where everything works, he says.
Apart from Anupam Kher and Sharad Saxena, the movie has no solid star to boast of,but it is racy and rustic enough to generate a buzz. Set in Haryanas Jatland, its the story of a badmaash gang of four, with all characters inspired from Dabass real life friends.
With its rural landscape and urban treatment,Dabbas, who was in town for films promotion, called it a mass multiplex film which will cut across all big city-small town cliches. And what makes him so sure? I showed the film to the drivers and spot boys at the set,for whom cinema is about entertainment. If they were entertained,it means Ive done my job well, he says.
With a bunch of theatre actors Vansh Bhardwaj,Kuldip Ruhil and Ashish Nayyar playing quirky characters called Sexy,Doctor and Ambani respectively, and background score by Siddharth-Suhas thats based on folk,Dabas may be right after all.
All we know is that Kher plays a scheming businessman while Kiran Juneja Sippy is a raging chief minister. So,is the film about corruption, water? Singham handled corruption, this is different: fresh and gripping, Dabas says.
