Punjab lad Paramveer Singh Bajwa played some sizzling tennis and entered the semi-finals of both the boy’s Under-14 and -16 categories in the on-going CLTA-AITA Super Series Tennis Tournament,at the CLTA Stadium in Sector 10.
He started off brilliantly in the boy’s Under-14 quarter-finals match against Sumit Pal Singh of Jammu and Kashmir. Braving the sultry conditions,Bajwa hit some powerful forhands from the baseline and annexed the first set 6-3. He was even more clinical in the second set, superbly placing the ball on the line to keep Sumit on his toes. He wrapped up the match in style and claimed the second set 6-4. In the Under-16 quarterfinal match,Bajwa who was placed against Dalwinder Singh, also of Punjab, continued with his winning form. In the first set,he eased past Dalwinder 6-3 while he made short work of his opponent in the second by winning the set 6-2,to santer into the last four.Meanwhile,in boy’s Under-14,Ishaque Eqbal of West Bengal and Rian Pandole of Maharashtra played the most nail-biting and thrilling match of the day that was extended to three sets.
Like a true champion,Eqbal kept his nerves and won the first set 7-6 (9) in an exciting tie-breaker. However, the pendulum swung in Rian’s favour and he grabbed the next set 6-4. Eqbal’s dreams of staging a comeback were shattered to pieces when he lost the final set 2-6.
