Berkeley car jacking case solved,claim police; five arrested

Anil has a long criminal record. He faces 20 cases of murder,loot at gun point,Arms Act,thefts in Sonepat,Rohtak,Panchkula,Kaithal,Hisar and Smalakha.

His three associates,Naveen,Arvind and Mohit are students of final year of engineering at Lovely Professional University. The police has claimed to have recovered three cars from them.

While staying with the engineering students,Anil and Amit went to Berkeley showroom in Industrial Area Phase-1 on April 23. They expressed the desire to take a test ride of Maruti Suzuki SX4. Umesh,one of the employees at the showroom also came along with him. But on the way they allegedly pointed a gun at him and dropped him near Karnal.

But the car met with an accident in Panipat. They left the car there and fled away. The local police recovered the car and registered a case.

Amit is also accused of snatching a Hyundai i20 car from a brick kiln owner from Hisar on May 11 at gun point. The car had a fake number plate on it.

The police recovered a Maruti Zen car from Naveen’s possession. It was allegedly looted from Jind.

Amit and Anil are the masterminds of the gang.

“We will soon arrest Amit also,” said Badri Prasad,DSP.

All the five were produced before the court which sentenced them to a seven-day police custody.

The engineering students are accused of providing shelter to Amit and Anil. Mohit procured pistol and bullets for the car jacking and Sandeep was also a part of the criminal conspiracy.
