Aditi Sheoran,a student of Class XII in Bhavan Vidyalaya,Sector 27,Chandigarh,has made her city proud by winning the Horlicks Wiz Kid Competition 2009 recently held in Bangalore.
She qualified for the city finals held at Tagore Theatre in August this year in which over 3,000 students had participated.
Students from Nepal,Sri Lanka and Bangladesh also participated in the contest. They had to take part in various competitions,spanned over a week which consisted of an IQ test,psycho metric test,talent round,speaking round,group discussions,powerpoint presentation round,physical activities and a leadership round.
Also,winners of the city finals had to undertake a project on child rights for a period of two months.
Aditi chose the rights of mentally challenged children and worked with the special cell of her school and organised various activities for them. The South Asian finals were held at Dr B R Ambedkar Bhavan in Bangalore where the panel of judges comprised actors Javed Jafri,Aftab Shivdasani,Aamna Sharif,Andrea Jeremiah and prominent theatre person Cherry Ganji and others.
Out of 68 students,14 were shortlisted who went through a series of different levels which included project presentation,a question-answer round by the judges and a talent round.
Aditi impressively passed through all the rounds with flying colours.
She bagged a scholarship of Rs 1 lakh,a crystal trophy and a weeklong trip to Portugal and Spain. Apart from this,she also won the Strongest Participant Award.
An all-rounder and the captain of Bhavan Vidyalaya School,Aditi believes such competitions provide great exposure and leads to the overall development of a child.
It also gave me the wonderful opportunity to work for differently-abled children and interact with students from different countries and cultural backgrounds, she beamed.
