Its a part of Mohali thats better known for its cricketing action. With the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium in the vicinity, designer Shweta Khanna admits she found her ideal location in Phase X. Unlike Chandigarh, thats dotted with designer stops,Mohali has home-run boutiques but few designer studios. Flaunt by Khanna is a new arrival. I had been planning this for a while as I found a need gap in Mohali, says Khanna. An established name in Chandigarhs designer circles she worked with Inter National Institute of Fashion Design (INIFD) before branching out on her own a few years ago. Pocket-friendly fashion has been Khannas USP. At Flaunt, she sticks to it and the Spring-Summer 2012 collection on the racks is priced Rs 500 onwards (for casual tees and tunics).
Looking to cater to all tastes, theres a fair amount of bling on her garments. The collection includes the usual Anarkali suits with gota work in fabrics such as net teamed with lurex and georgette.
The ensembles boasting of shuttle work lace are appealing. Heavily embroidered unstitched suits are also a part of the collection and they, thankfully, dont contain unnecessary sequin work. What sets Khanna apart is her casual and semi-formal range that includes kaftans,Pakistani tunics (in very soft fabrics) and block print suits. while Khanna also specialises in tailored Western wear such as jumpsuits and dresses, her work on the salwar is noteworthy. Giving Patiala salwars a miss, she offers the lungi-salwar,harem pants with embroidered cuffs, straight fit pants and salwars with gota and lace borders. Theres always a lot of emphasis on the kurta of a suit. I wanted to play up the salwar that can be teamed with any upper, says Khanna, who is working with multiple fabrics as well. To break the monotony,I have used patches of different fabrics that work well together, explains the designer who is also working on building online sales.
My target would be the working woman who has no time to make store visits. I will customise garments and deliver at home, she says.
