HOSHIARPUR: Reacting to the incident in which five activists allegedly belonging to a right-wing Hindu outfit assaulted Jagtar Singh Hawara,convicted for assassinating former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh,in the district court premises here,the Dal Khalsa said such hooliganism was intolerable. Party head H S Dhami said the attack by the Akhil Bhartiya Hindu Suraksha Samiti (ABHSS) led by Ashutosh Gautam and Nishant Sharma was pre-planned to prevent Hawara and his aide Paramjit Singh Bheroa from attending the court in person as the police have already mooted the idea to hold their trial through video conferencing.

Lt Gen Madhok assumes command of Vajra Corps

JALANDHAR: Lieutenant General Sanjeev Madhok,took over the command of the elite Vajra Corps on Friday. After taking charge,he paid homage to the martyrs by laying a wreath at the Vajra War Memorial. Prior to taking command of Vajra Corps,Lt Gen Madhok was the additional director general of public information at Army Headquarters,New Delhi. An alumnus of the National Defence Academy,Khadakvasala,Indian Military Academy, Dehradun and National Defence College New Delhi, Lt Gen Madhok was commissioned in the Brigade of the Guards in December 1975. A recipient of the Vishisht Seva Medal,Lt Gen Madhok has replaced Lt Gen Munish Sibal,who has moved to Army Headquarters as the Quarter Master General.

Rs 1.75 lakh looted from Powercom office

HOSHIARPUR: Four unidentified criminals on Friday took the cashier of Powercom office in Miani in Hoshiarur hostage at gunpoint and decamped with Rs 1.75 lakh . They also thrashed five Powercom employees after taking them hostage at gun point. DSP Ram Singh,quoting the cashier,Rajesh Kumar said that the four men came on two motorcycles. They looted Rs 1.5 lakh from the cash box. They robbed Rs 25,000 from other employees in the office.
