IFS officers harassment: Chautala seeks resignation of Hooda
Chandigarh: Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) chief and former Haryana chief minister Om Prakash Chautala has demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda over the issue of an Indian Forest Services officer allegedly being harassed by the state government. In a statement issued here on Thursday,Chautala said the state government had been harassing IFS officer Sanjay Chatruvedi ever since he joined the service and specially after he brought forth an alleged scam in the plantation drive carried out in Jhajjar. He added that a report of the ministry of forests and environment,besides recommendations of the cabinet secretary in the matter,had vindicated the officers stand. The Union Ministry of Environment has now asked for a CBI probe in the matter, said Chautala,adding that Hooda should resign on moral grounds.
Dera heads trial to resume on Jan 19
Chandigarh: Followers of Dera Sacha Sauda will not block traffic in Sirsa for at least a week as the next hearing in the case against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh is scheduled to be held by the CBI court on January 19. Despite imposition of Section 144 in the Sirsa city,Dera followers had been holding a road blockade for a week,ever since the daily trial of the Dera head through video-conferencing started in the CBI court. On Wednesday,they had clashed with the Sirsa police when the latter tried to remove the road blockade.
Registration of parties for SGPC pollsRs 183 cr for repair of 34 major roads
Chandigarh: The Haryana government has sanctioned Rs 183.46 crore for the repair of 34 major district roads and state highways. The roads to be repaired are in Sirsa,Fatehabad,Karnal,Kaithal,Sonepat and Mahendergarh.
Haryana plans GPS mapping of all schools
Chandigarh: The Haryana government has decided to got for Global Positioning System (GPS) coordinates mapping of all primary,middle,high and senior secondary schools of all districts in the state. An official spokesman said GPS mapping of the schools was required to identify areas where new schools should be opened. All district education officers and district elementary education officers have been asked to depute data entry operators or junior programmers working in their offices to undergo one-day training at the Haryana Space Application Centre,Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University,Hisar on January 14.
IGMC gets four more PG seats
Shimla: The Medical Council of India has granted permission to the state government to start a post-graduate course in psychiatry department and DM (Super Specialty course) in the Department of Cardiology at Indira Gandhi Government Medical College,Shimla,from the coming academic session. Two seats each have been sanctioned for the departments, said Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal after receiving the formal MCI sanction on Thursday. The number of PG seats in the state has increased from 39 to 79 in last three years. The CM said the state had applied for two more seats in pulmonary medicine and CTVS departments and inspection of the medial college for this had already been done.
Helicopter sorties for tribal areas prioritised
Shimla: With no let-up in bad weather conditions and snowfall in tribal areas and higher reaches,the government has prioritised helicopter sorties for marooned locations in the tribal areas of Lahaul,Chamba and Pangi. The sorties are being planned as per requests received from the district administration and with priority to patients,candidates for examinations and women and children. Since January 1,at least 263 patients had been ferried to and from tribal and snowbound areas,said a government spokesperson. For locals and government employees (to and fro) journey in a season is available on a subsidised rate of Rs 1,500,while the rates are Rs 700 for patients and Rs 7,000 for general travellers.
Fire destroys property worth Rs 3 lakh
Shimla: Property worth Rs 3 lakh was gutted in a devastating fire that broke out in a three-storey building in Sanjauli locality of Shimla in the early wee hours on Thursday. No loss of life was reported. Police said the cause of fire seemed to be an electric short-circuit. The building belongs to one Charan Dass and housed a eatery,a chemists store and a few other shops. Three fire engines were pressed into service that took two hours to to douse the flames,said the police.
