No info of man ‘picked by cops’ after parole

Jalandhar:Lal Singh,who was serving life imprisonment in Nabha Jail,was picked up by the police on Sunday from his residence in Akalgarh village near Phagwara. Singh was released on a 90-day parole in August. His wife,Gurdip Kaur,said: “Officials said that they were from Jalandhar and asked my husband to go with them. Now,no one is telling us about his whereabouts.” Jalandhar police officers,however,denied they had picked him up.

20 HCS officers transferred

Chandigarh:The Haryana Government has issued transfer and posting orders of 20 HCS officers with immediate effect. Among those transferred include,Hema Sharma,now posted as sub-divisional officer (Civil)-cum-additional collector,Indri and Mukul Kumar,as zonal administrator of Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board.

Cash rewards for info of 2 blind murders

Chandigarh:Haryana DGP,R S Dalal,has announced a cash reward of Rs. 50,000 each for information on two murders in the state’s Karnal district. The first case relates to the alleged murder of UP resident Maha Singh (50),who was killed while he was returning from Taraori market on February 6,this year. The second case dates back to March,28; when a Karnal resident Kavita,alleged that she,along with her husband Mahabir,son Nitish (8) and Rahul (6) went to bed after having their meal. The next morning,Nitish was found dead,while Rahul’s body as found at a pond in Pundri village.

Vote for SAD-BJP in 2014 LS polls: Majithia

Amritsar:Slamming the Congress and seeking a mandate for the SAD-BJP combine in the 2014 Parliamentary polls Punjab cabinet minister Bikram Singh Majithia on Monday said that despite 65 years of independence,the dreams of the country’s martyrs have not been fulfilled. He was speaking at a function to commemorate the 105th birth anniversary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh.

Phoolka submits citizen initiative plan

Amritsar:Senior Supreme Court lawyer Harvinder Singh Phoolka on Monday submitted a letter to Akal Takht chief Giani Gurbachan Singh detailing a plan ‘Forgotten Citizen Initiative’ to observe the 1984 anti-Sikh riots anniversary. Phoolka said that under the initiative,tributes will be paid to 3,000 victims at the India Gate in New Delhi on November 3. Photos of turbans with names of the victims will be placed at the national monument.

Body of 50-yr-old with hands tied found

Amritsar:The body of a man identified as William Masih,a resident of Jogowal village near Dhariwal in Gurdaspur district,was found in bushes at Ranjit Avenue on Monday. Police said Masih was around 50 years of age and was a rickshaw puller. His hands had been tied and a rope was found around his neck,indicating death due to strangulation. A case has been registered.

Nayyar takes charge as family welfare chief

Chandigarh:Dr Ashok Nayyar assumed charge as director (Health and Family Welfare) on Monday. He had earlier served as the director of health services in the state. He is also the nodal officer for the prestigious International Road Safety (RS 10) Project,in the state. Listing out his priorities,Dr Nayyar stated that he would lay emphasis on better health care services.

Lawrence School to hold founders’ day

Shimla:Lawrence School in Sanawar will mark its 165th founders’ day between October 2 and October 4. Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal will be the chief guest and he will be accompanied by other dignitaries including J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt. Various programmes including a chapel service for silver and diamond jubilee batches,the annual athletic meet,hockey and basketball matches will be held.
