CHANDIGARH: Three youngsters were killed when the motorcycle they were riding rammed into a parked truck on Kurukshetra-Yamunanagar highway late on Sunday. None of the riders,all school students from Ladwa,were wearing helmets,the police said. “The incident took place at Bohli village turn on the highway. It was dark and foggy. The boys,driving the motorcycle at high speed,failed to spot the parked truck and rammed into it. One boy died on the spot while the other two succumbed to injuries on way to the hospital,” an investigating official said quoting eyewitnesses.

Three more food poisoning cases

Nahan: Three more food poisoning patients were admitted to the Regional Hospital,Nahan,on Monday taking the total number of such patients to 94 in the past 24 hours. Superintendent of Police,Sirmour,Puneeta Bhardwaj said health department has not intimidated the police about any such case,so no FIR has been filed. However,the Deputy SP Paonta Sahib has been directed to investigate the case. The medical officer,Dr Sunil Gupta,said the a samples of water from the local well,which was used to prepare food,have been sent for testing.

‘Caste system can’t remain a political tool’

Shimla: Bhalchandra Mungekar,a Rajya Sabha member and chairman,Indian Institute of Advanced Study,on Monday said that existence of caste system can’t be dismissed by merely stating that it is a political tool. “The caste problem is neither on national agenda,nor does it find place in national discourse. It is,however,as relevant today as it was decades ago,” the MP said,while adding that Babasaheb BRAmbedkar’s name is used in India only for public purpose. “Ambedkar still does not occupy central place in India’s social and cultural discourse because he had raised some uncomfortable question which remain unanswered,” Maungekar added.

Two die in Himachal road accident

Shimla: Two persons were killed and sixteen injured when a state roadways bus skidded off the road and rolled into a gorge near Anti in Jubbal region of Shimla district on Monday. Six of the injured were been shifted to Shimla’s IGMC hospital while the rest are recovering in Rohru and Saraswati Nagar. The state roadways bus was on its way from Tieuni to Una.
