Man found dead in Nawanshahr
NAWANSHAHR: A body was found in a vacant plot in Kulam Road area here on Friday morning. The body was blood soaked and there was a small sized kirpan in one hand of the deceased. The deceased has been identified as Amar Gurpreet Singh (48) of Mohalla Panserian,Garhshankar. Harbachan Singh,the father-in-law of the deceased said Singh was under stress for some time and may have committed suicide.
The deceased had come here to pay obesience at a religious place and didnt carry his purse and mobile phone. Police are investigating the case. In another case an unidentified body was recovered from Adampur area.
Young couple found murdered
AMRITSAR: A young couple identified as Pardeep Singh Gabbar and Kiranjit Kaur were found murdered near Gharinda village on Friday. Their bodies were thrown into the drain after strangulating them,said the police adding that a case of murder had been registered. This was not yet clear if they were married but they were staying together in a rented room at Khasa near here.
The police sources said the man belongs to Jhabhal and his parents had been contacted who said that their son had been staying away for some time. The woman frequently visted their home had been staying with their son for over a year now. We are yet to identify the killers. Both were strangulated, said Attari DSP Hardev Singh.
Four-member team to meet 17 Indians on death row
JALANDHAR: A four-member team of the Punjab government will visit the 17 Punjabis on death row in Dubai from May 24 to 26 in connection with the ongoing case of murder against them. This was informed by Punjab Information and Public Relations Minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan,here on Friday. He said he would be a part of the team.
Akali body to observe holocaust week
JALANDHAR: Shiromani Akali Dal (Panch Pardhani) has announced to observe Holocaust week from June 1 to 6 and will hold a memorial march from Chappar Chiri to the Golden Temple,Amritsar. Harpal Singh Cheema,Secretary General of Panch Pardhani informed the mediapersons here on Friday a decision in this regard was taken by the supreme council of party at a meeting held at Ludhiana recently.
He said the meeting was attended by Kulbir Singh Barapind,Jasvir Singh Khandur,and Balwinder Singh Jhabaal,among others,and the decision has been confirmed by party chairman Bhai Daljeet Singh Bittu,who is currently lodged in Amritsar jail SAD (Panch Pardhnai) has also demanded that the martyrs gallery situated in Akal Takht at Amritsar be opened for Sikh Sangat on June 6. It is ridiculous that the monument of Sikhs is not opened for Sikh Sangat even after 26 years of its construction, said Panch Pardhani leaders.
Seven arrested for 3 murders
Moga/Jagraon: The Jagraon police have arrested seven persons for murder of three people,including two sarpanches. The police have also recovered a .12 bore gun,a .315 bore pistol,.315 bore rifle and an Indica car from them. Those arrested have been identified as Gurpreet Singh Lehmber,a resident of Salempura village,Gurpreet Singh,a resident of Gursar Kaonke,Gurpreet Singh alias Gogi,a resident of Sher Jung village,Chanranjit Singh alias Rinku,a resident of Barnala,Hardeep Singh alias Kaka,a resident of Mehal Kalan and Mandeep Singh. Apart from these Karnail Singh,Raman Kumar,Jasbir Singh alias Jassi and Charanjit Singh have also been rounded up.
CIA Incharge Jagraon Tehal Singh said,All these boys have been nursing some grudge or the other,insult to family members,a fight,or a case of property.
As per the police records,these boys had killed one Harmanjeet Singh and injured one Daljit Singh near the Jagraon court complex on January 20 this year. This murder was a result of fall out between the two groups over the students union presidentship of local college. On March 6,Sarpanch,Inderjeet Singh of Gajeana village of the Moga district was shot dead by the same group near Lopo. In this case Raman Kumar had provided information about the movement of the deceased. A few days later in a shoot out at Dhaudhar village in Moga,Sarpanch Rashpal Singh was shot dead while his gunman was seriously injured.
