2 get lifer for killing uncle for Rs 200
Hoshiarpur: A court on Wednesday awarded life imprisonment to two brothers who had killed their uncle for Rs 200 in Hoshiarpur district. The court of Additional District Sessions Judge JS Bhinder also told them to pay of a fine of Rs 20,000 each. Three others were acquitted in the case.Earlier,Kuldeep Singh of Dhamiakalan village in Hoshiarpur district had complained to the police on November 10,2007,that his father Sohan Singh was murdered by brothers Rajinder Singh alias Harjinder Singh and Jaswinder Singh,their father Bakhashish Singh,and Kulwinder Kaur and Manjit Singh. He alleged that his father Sohan had owned a plot in Shamchaurasi where he had planted some trees. My father asked Rajinder to sell a tree from the plot. Rajinder sold the tree for Rs 3500 but gave only Rs 3,300 to my father, he added. On being asked to hand over the remaining Rs 200,Rajinder entered into a brawl and called others who attacked his father sharp edged weapons,killing him,he said.
Corruption by Cong to be a poll plank: SAD
Patiala: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) general secretary and former Member of Parliament Prem Singh Chandumajra on Wednesday said that the rampant corruption of the Congress led UPA government is haunting state Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh and that it why he is fearing worst out of the visit of social activist Anna Hazare to Punjab. Reacting to the statement of the Congress leader on Annas Punjab visit,Chandumajra,in a press statement said that Amarinder was aware of the fact that massive scale corruption by UPA had badly affected the life of the common man and in the ensuing Assembly elections in the state it would be a big issue. He added that the Punjab Today advertisement scam during the Congress regime caused huge losses to the government exchequer.
Capt expresses grief over death of 3 children
Amritsar: The bodies of the three children,who were burnt alive on Tuesday after an abandoned auto rickshaw which they drove to a field where stubble was being burnt caught fire,were cremated in their respective villages. State Congress President Capt Amarinder Singh expressing grief over the tragic incident asked the district administration to take serious note of the burning of the paddy stubble,which led to the death of the children while several others were injured. The deceased children were identified as Gurjeet Singh of Koharwind,Gurmohan and Raman of Muchchal village. Three others,Gurkaran,Labh and Raman Kumar,sustained burn injuries. Labh was driving the auto rickshaw and lost control of the vehicle when it entered a field where the paddy stubble was being burnt.
Suspected ISI agent nabbed
Ludhiana: The police on Wednesday nabbed Chuhar Singh,who was working in MES power house in Ferozepur,for passing sending secret information about the Armymen to agents in Pakistan. The SSP Ferozepr,Surjit Singh,said that Chuhar Singh was sending mobile numbers of army officers,location of units and many other such details to his contacts in Pakistan. Investigations are on,he said,adding that some maps and books on Indian army were seized from his possession.
Cop shot at,revolver stolen
Jalandhar: Two-motorcycle-borne youth attacked a sub-inspector (SI) on the National Highway-1 near Verka Milk Plant with a sharp-edged weapon,snatched his revolver and fired at him injuring him in the face before fleeing from the place. Some commuters later rushed the injured Channan Dass,a highway patrol officer to the nearby Sacred Heart Hospital. The Police Station Division 1 SHO Nirmal Singh said they are yet to get the the details of the incident as the injured officer was not able to speak. The assailants only took away his revolver,Singh said,adding that investigations are on.
Magic show at Khalsa College on Oct 15
Amritsar: The father and son duo of magicians Prof Shankar and Shankar Junior would perform in Tagore Open Air Auditorium of Khalsa College of Education on October 15. Principal,Jaswinder Singh Dhillon,said the show is aimed at recreation of students and faculty members of the college.
