patiala: Rice millers of Punjab,under the aegis of Punjab Rice Millers Association,on Sunday unanimously passed a resolution hailing the decision of the Punjab government to abolish value added tax on rice bran. The millers said this would bring respire to millers. The meeting was held at Sirhind today.

Sukhbir condoles death of Mahant Prakash

Jalandhar: Deputy Chief Minister Punjab Sukhbir Singh Badal has expressed shock at the demise of Mahant Ram Parkash,a veteran BJP leader. The former health minister of Punjab died on Saturday after brief illness. In his condolence message,the junior Badal said Mahant Parkash was a popular leader of Doaba region,who worked tirelessly for the uplift of underprivileged and down trodden.

Dal Khalsa welcomes Suu Kyi release

Jalandhar: Dal Khalsa has welcomed the release of Burmese iconic leader Aung San Suu Kyi and urged the Myanmar regime to release the remaining political prisoners. The party’s secretary for political affairs,Kanwar Pal Singh,said Suu Kyi was “an inspiration for all who believe in freedom of speech,democracy,liberty and human rights”. He slammed the military junta for holding up 2,100 political prisoners and carrying out a campaign of rape against ethnic minority women.

Analyzing US President Barack Obama’s speech in Parliament,he said while Obama took India to task for not speaking against suppression of human rights in Myanmar,his failure to take note of India’s human rights problems was a matter of concern.
