Shagun Scheme bolstered

The Punjab Government issued detailed instructions,on Friday,widening the scope of Shagun Scheme for 2011-12. Guljar Singh Ranike,Minister Welfare of SC and BC,said that the Shagun amount of Rs 15,000 would be credited to the beneficiary’s bank account. The beneficiary girl should be above-18 and the applicants family income should not exceed Rs 30,000 per year. The Minister added that eligible girls would have to apply for shagun before or on the date of marriage and that no form would be accepted after the marriage. The applicant’s parents’ have to be domicile residents of Punjab. He added that economically poor widows or divorcee girls would also eligible for shagun at the time of re-marriage.

Door-to-door garbage collection starts in Oct

Under the Solid Waste Management Project,door-to-door collection of garbage in major cities of the state will begin from October,2011. Minister of local Bodies and Industries,Tikshan Sud,said that sites for setting up solid waste processing plants have already been identified and that the whole state has been divided into 8 sections,including three metros cities – Jalandhar,Ludhiana,Amritsar besides Ferozepur,Bathinda,Patiala,Sangrur,Pathankot and GMADA (area under Greater Mohali Development Authority).
