Briefly State: No septic tanks in 30 villages

Four years after the Punjab and Haryana High Court directed the Punjab government to install septic tanks in all villages,it is yet to take up the same in 30 villages.

CHANDIGARH: Four years after the Punjab and Haryana High Court directed the Punjab government to install septic tanks in all villages,it is yet to take up the same in 30 villages. The state government submitted a status report to this effect in in the court on Thursday. The status report states that “of the total 152 villages,work could not be started in 30 villages owing to opposition by concerned panchayats or non availability of land for treatment plants.”

Abducted J&K girl rescued in Punjab

Kathua (J&K): The Jammu and Kashmir Police Thursday rescued an abducted teenaged girl from a location in Phagwara in Punjab’s Jalandhar district and arrested the alleged kidnapper. The 15-year-old girl was kidnapped from Mandli village of Kathua district on July 1,police said. The kidnapper,identified as Nissar Ali,was arrested,and the girl handed over to her family members.

Officers’ working to be assessed

CHANDIGARH: In a move to weed out the “inefficient,irresponsible and undesirable state government officers,” Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Thursday sought the periodic review of their performance in accordance with the Centre’s directives. Badal asked the Chief Secretary to constitute a committee under his chairmanship to review the performance of the officers after 15,20 and 25 years service and submit a quarterly report to him.

Kairon seeks supply of gunny bales

Chandigarh: Punjab Food & Supplies Minister Adaish Partap Singh Kairon on Thursday urged the Union Food Ministry for timely supply of gunny bales for kharif 2012-13 to Punjab. He said that to ensure hassle free procurement of paddy during the kharif season,state government has already placed an indent of 7.71 lac bales of 50 kg new jute bags with DGS&D on May 23,2012 along with remittance of advance funds.

Drive on to nab absconding POs

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab State Vigilance Bureau on Thursday launched a special drive to apprehend the absconding proclaimed offenders in various cases. The bureau would also get published photographs of 71 proclaimed offenders in the newspapers,Suresh Arora,DGP-cum-Chief Director Vigilance Bureau,Punjab said. The Bureau had arrested 8 such absconders in June. Giving details he said,one person has been granted bail by the Punjab and Haryana High Court while 19 have gone to different countries. “Lookout circulars have been issued at the international airports so that they could be arrested,” he said,adding that properties of seven proclaimed offenders have been attached.

State needs 1,871 docs,medical officers

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government told the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday that it is reeling under a deficit of 1,871 doctors and medical officers. It made this statement during the resumed hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL). It also filed an affidavit submitting that there are 444 primary health centers in the state.

ATO hails SpiceJet flight to Srinagar

Amritsar: Amritsar Tourism Outreach (ATO) has hailed the decision of SpiceJet to start flights from Amritsar to Srinagar from July 12. Another airline,Mantra Airways,will soon be providing high-end slots from Amritsar to Chandigarh,Dharamshala and Jammu,it announced.
