Bunty’s New Role

Post his win in the Gladrags Model Hunt in 1998,Jatin Grewal was flooded with modelling assignments and movie offers. He went on to be a well-known face on the ramp,but the Uttrakhand-born and Chandigarh-bred model prefers not to talk about his box office duds,which included films such as Chetna,Anamika and Rahul. More than a decade later,Grewal’s back in action with a new identity,a new religion and a line up of films releasing in 2013. He became a follower of Scientology,made famous by Hollywood actor Tom Cruise,and changed his name to Bunty. Grewal is now geared up for his first Punjabi film titled Desi Munde directed by Inderjit Bansal. “The film is about two brothers,their lives and how they,along with their friends,want to go abroad,” shares Grewal about the film that also talks about the legal avenues of going abroad. “All Punjabis dream of settling abroad and we are dealing with how one needs to be prepared,with homework done,and then venture out,” says Grewal. While the film will release in March next year,Grewal will be seen in two Hindi films too — as the protagonist in Love You Sohniyo directed by Joe Rajan and in Shortcut Romeo by Sushi Ganesan.

From Jatinder Singh Grewal to Jatin Grewal,and now Bunty,the actor says the change in name hardly bothers him. “I’ve always been an easy-going person. When I joined Hindi films,they wanted me to go with Jatin and I went along. Now that I am doing Punjabi films,the producers said why not use my pet name Bunty. I said okay,” says Grewal. He does agree that his “brand” has been established as Jatin Grewal. “But then,if my films are a hit,then Bunty is a hit,” he says. About his religion,Grewal says that although it’s not that big in India,Scientology,like any religion is personal. “I don’t like to impose it. I just follow it,and it’s not such a tough religion as it has been made out to be,” he concludes.
