Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Friday lashed out at former chief minister and Pradesh Congress Committee chief Amarinder Singh alleging that he not only tried to scuttle the SGPC elections, but also have been creating hurdles in the way of development of the state.
Sukhbir alleged that Singh recently met Union Minister of Housing and Urban development Kumari Selja to get scuttled the development schemes which Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had got sanctioned for the state.
Sukhbir said that his father had recently got sanctioned from Selja a proposal worth Rs 750 crore for providing the basic civic amenities in the 50 towns of the state.
The Union minister had even approached the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) to complete the required formalities at the earliest but then the same has been shelved, he alleged.
Sukhbir was addressing rallies in favour of SAD-Sant Samaj candidates for the SGPC elections at Lopoke,Ajnala,Loharka and Shehrta.
Describing Singh as a defeated Maharaja, who after losing the war destroys his own kingdom in frustration,he said that the former CM knows that Congress party would be defeated in the Vidhan Sabha elections. He alleged that Singh had earlier delayed Bathinda Refinery project for five years and after failing to execute even one power project during his tenure, now wants to scuttle the power projects being installed by SAD-BJP government.
Accompanied by former minister Bikram Singh Majithia and other party leaders,Sukhbir said that if Singh was so concerned about the interests of Punjab,he should approach UPA to raise the share of Punjab in the central taxes from 1.2 per cent to 50 per cent. Why was he silent when Punjab was given step-motherly treatment while allocating debt waiver fund? Punjab got less than 1 per cent out of Rs 70,000 crore waiver for the farmers of the country, he alleged.
