Census enumeration begins in Himachal

The second and final phase of Census operations for enumeration of population started in nine districts of Himachal Pradesh.

The second and final phase of Census operations for enumeration of population started in nine districts of Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday. February 28 and March 1 will see a special phase that will see all the action at night,to cover the houseless population living in bus stands,railway stations,footpaths and market yards.

Himachal Governor Urmila Singh,who was already enumerated as the first citizen of the state in September 2010,took stock of the Census operation as Director,Census Operation,Balbir Tegta gave a presentation to her. The governor was apprised about the special features of the operation in Himachal and the arrangements done.

She issued an appeal to all citizens of Himachal Pradesh to cooperate in the operation by giving complete and true information that would be crucial in future planning.

“One of the special features of the second phase of the Census will be to count the homeless people living on the streets. These people will only be covered in this phase as the first phase conducted during September was a house survey,” said Tegta.

Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal reached his native place Samirpur in Hamirpur district and got himself enrolled by filling up the requisite forms,along with his entire family.
