The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court of Chandigarh Friday revoked the driving licence of a habitual traffic rules offender and fined him Rs 43,400 after he was found guilty of 222 violations: 168 instances of overspeeding and 44 red light jumping.

Furthermore, the court mandated that he complete 15 days of community service at a traffic signal, where he must ensure that the public adheres to traffic rules. The CJM Court took the violations seriously and impounded his vehicle. It will remain impounded until a person representing the offender appears before the court with a valid driving licence and submits an application for its release.

According to the Chandigarh traffic police, to tackle the problem of habitual traffic offenders, 10 cases against such offenders have been prepared and submitted to the CJM Court as well as the Registration and Licensing Authority. Further proceedings are scheduled for February 17.
