Chandigarh RLA e-auction process to start today

The process of e-auction will be a 10-day affair, seven days reserved for registration and three days for bidding.

THE UT Registration and Licensing Authority (RLA) will start the registration process of first e-auction of fancy registration numbers in CH-01-BG series from April 26. Earlier, the administration was to start the e-auction by April 22, but the launch was delayed due to technical glitches in the software developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC).

The process of e-auction will be a 10-day affair, seven days reserved for registration and three days for bidding. Those interested can register from April 26 to May 2 while three days from May 3 to May 5 have been reserved for bidding.

Those interested in getting the number of their choice will have to register on the official website of the Chandigarh Administration to get the unique acknowledgment number (UAN). Thereafter, the applicant will have to deposit demand draft of reserve price fixed for the fancy number and registration fee of Rs 500 for taking part in the auction. The registration of the bidder will be approved by RLA and the applicant will receive a system-generated login ID and password through SMS and e-mail.

Lauding the initiative of the administration, Gurjot Singh, a city-based businessman, who is planning to take part in the e-auction, said it would make things more convenient for those seeking fancy numbers.

As per norms, one person can bid for a maximum of five registration numbers of choice per UAN per vehicle. However, to apply for number for more than one vehicle, one will have to register separately.

While bidding, the bidder can change the amount of bid by multiples of Rs 1,000 for each category. The numbers will be allocated to the highest bidders in each category. In case, more than one applicant apply at minimum reserve price and where no further incremental bids are made by any of the applicants, the registration number will be allotted through random selection.

The successful bidder is required to get the vehicle registered as well as to deposit the balance bid amount within one month from the date of auction, failing which a penalty of 10 per cent as well as interest at the rate of 10 per cent on balance amount would be charged till the date of payment. The result of the auction will be out on the website and the successful bidders will be informed through SMS and e-mail.
