The CBI special court here on Friday heard the witness application of Gurdas Singh in connection with the Chhatrapati murder case. He had requested to be taken as a CBI witness against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the prime accused in the case. The arguments of both sides were heard and the decision of the court will be pronounced on August 7.
Gurdas Singh had moved the court to be taken as a witness against the accused. He alleged that he had heard the Dera head plotting the murder of journalist Ram Chandra Chhatrapati, who had been reporting against the Dera activities from Sirsa. Gurmeet is facing a trial in three cases in the Panchkula CBI court, two of them are for murder and the other one for sexual harassment, which were shifted from an Ambala court.
Gurdas Singhs lawyer told mediapersons that the appeal was likely to be approved. He said that Gurdas was questioned in court regarding his silence over the matter for such a long period after the case had started. To this,it was said that,in the interest of justice,Gurdas had decided that he should get his eyewitness account recorded after Khatta Singh,Gurmeet Sighs driver and the key witness in the case, turned hostile in court and refused to give his statement against the accused.
