Chidambaram to inaugurate Attari check post project today

“The new ICP will have separate gates for the trucks carrying goods and visitors to cross over or arrive in India. The offices of immigration and customs will provide faster clearance to the passengers on the Delhi-Lahore,Amritsar-Lahore and Amritsar-Nankana Sahib buses,” said Amritsar DC K S Pannu.

There is also a provision to acquire more land,apart from the 132 acres already in possession,to expand the ICP and incorporate the Attari Railway Station,from where the Samjhauta Express runs.

The border areas have been in news recently for repeated rocket attacks from Pakistan,and inquiries have been marked in the matter. Chidambaram will address other border problems,including the increased drug trade across the border.

Issues like non-payment of compensation to farmers whose land falls across the barbed fence,shifting of the barbed fence near the international border (IB) would also be discussed,said an officer..

Pak hockey team to arrive through Attari on Feb 22
AMRITSAR:The Pakistan Hockey team will arrive in India through the Attari border check post on February 22.

The team will halt briefly at Attari before moving on to Delhi to play matches.

Special arrangements have been made for the the security of the Delhi- bound bus from Lahore,said an officer.
