One of the factors which has accounted for the local favourites Rock Rovers Academy’s superb performance in the Chandigarh State Hockey Championship (Senior) has been the crowd support. On Saturday, the local favourites failed to take full use of local support and lost to Central Industrial Security Force with a 1-2 margin in the first semi-final encounter of the tournament played at Sector 18 Hockey grounds.
Both the teams played aggressive hockey and forwards of both the tams were on an attacking spree. CISF drew the first blood in the match when Ranjeet successfully converted a penalty corner in the fourth minute of the match to put CISF into lead. CISF forwards made some fine sallies into the opposition half but all their efforts were thwarted by Rock Rovers defenders. At half-time,the scorecard read 1-0 in the favour of CISF. Rock Rovers forwards then regrouped their energies and made constant attacks into the opposition half. But in the end,It was the CISF team which emerges as triumphant. Gurjeet scored the winning goal for the team in the 55nd minute to guide his team into the final of the tournament.
