A coffee-table book on a collection of photographs clicked by Ishita Choudhary – an alumnus of Centre for Social Work, Panjab University (PU) – in the villages of Rajasthan during her internship programme while pursuing Master of Social Work (MSW) was released in PU recently.

The book is titled “Zakheera-E-Junoon” which means a passion for secretly hidden things or captured moments.

Twenty-seven-year-old Ishita Choudhary says, “The photographs were clicked from my mobile phone while working in extreme climatic condition for a month in the villages of Rajasthan during my MSW internship programme. I visited 27 villages in Rajasthan in June 2018. The temperature was 50°C in Rajasthan at the time. I prepared myself mentally before going there. I lived one month without AC and fan at home so that my body could adapt to the weather of Rajasthan.”

She chose the rural sector to work on for her internship. She met a lot of people during her Rajasthan stint, examined their way of living and covered everything in those few pages of her book through pictures.

The unique thing about the coffee-table book is – the name of the book is in Urdu, the introduction is in English, while the captions of the pictures are in Hindi.

Prof Renu Vig, Vice-Chancellor, PU; Satya Pal Jain, Additional Solicitor General of India; Davesh Moudgil, former mayor; and Gaurav Gaur, chairperson of Centre for Social Work, PU; were present at the book launch.
