PCC delegates discuss arrangements for March 23 Khatkar Kalan rally

The Punjab Congress has decided to install cameras at all its rally venues from now to assess the performance of members, recording which leader has mobilised most crowd and who has made only “false claims”. The March 23 rally at Khatkar Kalan to mark the martyrdom of Shaheed Bhagat Singh will have cameras all over the venue.

Senior Congress leader and former cabinet minister Lal Singh said: “The party has hired an agency, which will install 36 cameras across the venue and on the roads leading to it,to see which leader has brought how many supporters,so that correct assessments can be made. I will request all delegates that all the vehicles they will bring supporters in for show of strength should carry a photograph of the leader. There has been a tradition in the Congress that the crowds are gathered by someone else and credit is taken by others when time comes for allotting election tickets.” he said 117 rallies had been planned across the state, with one in each constituency, and all these rallies would have similar arrangements.

A meeting of the delegates was called on Sunday to deliberate on the arrangements for the March 23 rally.

Punjab Congress President Capt Amarinder Singh called upon the delegates to move to the grassroots and take the party programme to the people. Questioning the claims of development by the Akali-BJP government,he told the delegates to expose the government. He said: “(Deputy Chief Minister) Sukhbir (Badal) should show where he has done development worth Rs 35,000 crore,as he is claiming every day.”

Appealing to the party workers to remain united,Congress Working Committee member and the newly-elected party in-charge for Punjab,Gulchain Singh Charak, cautioned the representatives against “internal sabotage”. He said: “The Congress in Punjab today is very strong and certain to come to power, but needs to be united and cautious against the sabotage from within by certain vested interests.”

Addressing the delegates,Congress Legislative Party leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal said there was not only restlessness among the people across Punjab, but within the ruling Akali Dal too and it was certain to get dispersed and disbanded.
