Cops crack the whip against gambling in Mohali

The Mohali police on Sunday cracked the whip against gambling under the garb of lottery tickets in different parts of the city.

The police arrested four such persons,who were promising to pay Rs 80 for Re 1 on choosing specific number,in Phase VI,V and II. A sum of around Rs 37,000 was seized from the arrested persons,the police said.

According to information,the action was taken on a tip-off and raids were conducted at several places,where the accused persons were found offering hefty sums if the chosen number by the customer gets selected for the prize.

Those arrested include Anil Kumar of Phase I,Santosh Kumar alias Raju of Palsora,Arvind Kumar of Palsora and Balwinder Singh of Dhanas in Chandigarh. After being arrested under Sections 13-A,3 and 67 of the Gambling Act,all the accused were later released on bail.

The action was initiated following directions from Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jatinder Singh Aulakh to check the illegal business of gambling across the district.
