Councillors file nominations for posts of MC sub-committees

The councillors filed nominations for elections for the posts of chairpersons and vice-chairpersons of the Municipal Corporation sub-committees.

The councillors filed nominations for elections for the posts of chairpersons and vice-chairpersons of the Municipal Corporation sub-committees on Wednesday.

With one nomination being filed per committee,the election of chairpersons will be unanimous. Only the nomination for Arts,Culture and Sports Committee is pending. It will be filed on Thursday. For the posts of vice-chairpersons,nominations for seven sub-committees have been filed.

However,some councillors rued that the circular providing information about inviting nominations was issued on January 18.

While a few received the notice on Tuesday,others got it on Wednesday morning. For six of the 12 committees,Wednesday was the last date to file nominations.

It seems that the chairpersons have been decided beforehand. The whole process was a mere formality. The information should have been conveyed well in time. I wanted to file nominations,but was not able to do so. At the last minute,I could not find two members from the committee,who would have proposed and seconded my name, said Councillor Pallav Mukherjee.

However,Mayor Ravinder Pal Singh said he had cleared the file on January 14. It was delay on part of the officials,who had sent the notices on Tuesday,he alleged.
