Darshwinder Kaur and Harsh Beniwal of KB DAV School,Sector 7,Chandigarh,grabbed gold medal in the U-16 and U-12 Road Race (Quad),in the girls and boys categories,respectively,during CBSE North Zone-I Roller Skating Championship being held at KB DAV School,Sector 7,in Chandigarh. Meanwhile,Mohit Kumar of the same school fetched one silver medal in the U-12 boys Road Race (Quad).
Godrej & Boyce XI beat Sigma XI
Skipper Vaneet Chawla smashed a quickfire 87 to help Godrej & Boyce XI defeat Sigma XI by 25 runs in a league match of the Vth MG Cup League cricket tournament organised by the Chandigarh Sports Club at Sector 16 Cricket Stadium,Chandigarh. Batting first,Godrej & Boyce XI posted a total of 178 runs in 20 overs. Vaneet Chawla was the highest scorer with 87 runs in 61 deliveries. Harpreet Sunny also chipped in with 62 runs. In reply, Sigma XI fell short of the target by 25 runs. Ajay Bhardwaj bowled a superb spell to take four wickets. In the second match of the day,Deep Engg XI defeated Vodafone XI by seven wickets.
18 budding golfers awarded
As many as eighteen budding golfers received Golf Crystal Trophies after the completion of the second EGTF Junior Golf Training Programme organised at Chandigarh Golf Club Academy on Saturday. Lauding their participation in the EGTF Junior Golf Training Programme,Chandigarh Golf Club president Birinder Singh Gill and secretary GS Sandhu,gave away prizes to the golfers. Jasnee Suri,Japjyot Suri,Yuvraj Malhi,Attinder Pal Singh,Ojassvi Jolly,Manveen Narang and Angad Singh received two trophies each,while Aanchal Setia,Utsav Wadhwa,Jai Inder Singh,Oliver Brian,Ayushman Sikka,Armaan Sood,Surya Vir,Vishal Soman,Kartikya Kashyap,Soham Saha Roy and Jaibir Khangura got one trophy each for their performances. Later,Gill said,”We have increased the number of such programmes at the club as a part of our Junior Golf Mission 2016 and want more and more children of the Tricity to come and learn golf at our academy. He informed that the next EGTF Junior Golf Training Programme will commence from October 19 and end on October 29.
Spring Dales,Carmel Convent champs
Spring Dales of Delhi beat Carmel Convent of Chandigarh by 2-1 in the girls under-14 final of the North Zone Central Board of Secondary Education Lawn Tennis Tournament at The Banyan Tree School Academy courts in Sector 48 in Chandigarh on Sunday. Spring Dales had a bad start as Rashi lost to Karishma by 1-6,4-6. However,Mallika restored parity by beating Ishdeep 6-0,6-1. Rashi and Mallika defeated the Carmel Convent duo of Karishma and Ishdeep 6-3,6-3 to claim the title. Delhi Public School,Sector 40,Chandigarh,finished third beating MountCarmel Convent of Delhi by 2-0. In the first singles Tanya Batra got the better of Pritika 8-2 and Saumya Saxena crushed Priyansha 8-4. Meanwhile,Carmel Convent of Chandigarh bagged the girls under-19 title by defeating DAV Model School,Sector 15.
Peace Cup from today
To foster friendship among students from different communities and countries and promote football,Chandigarh Youth Centre will organise the sixth edition of Peace Cup from October 11 to 20 at the Sector 17 Football stadium. Meanwhile,Chandigarh Football Association will lend technical support to the tournament. As many as 16 teams will take part in the event that includes last year’s winner Zeliangrong Students Union,Chandigarh and runners-up Africa United. While there are seven local teams,other teams that will take part in the tournament are from Manipur,Mizoram,Ladakh,Nagaland,Thailand,Bhutan,Tibet and Africa.
Vikas,Naina win titles
Vikas Sharma of Accountant General Punjab and Naina Suri of Carmel Convent,Sector 9,won the men’s and women’s singles titles,respectively,in the NPS Chandigarh State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament which concluded at the Sector 23 Table Tennis Hall on Sunday. Two games down,Vikash Sharma staged a remarkable fight to prevail over Rachit Chopra of DAV College,Sector 10,by 9-11,8-11,13-11,11-3,11-7,11-7 in the men’s singles final. In semi-finals,Rachit Chopra of Panjab University accounted for Dev Saini of CTTC by 11-6,3-11,11-9,8-11,8-11,8-11,11-5,15-13 and Vikas Sharma had a smooth sailing against Harish Kumar of AG Haryana 11-8,7-11,11-5,11-9,11-8. Naina Suri of Carmel Convent beat Nadia Saini of GGSW-26 by 5-11,12-10,11-9,16-14,12-10 in the women’s singles final. Meanwhile,Mayank Kapoor of DAVPS-8 completed a double whammy by beating Dev Saini of CTTC by 11-6,9-11,11-9,4-11,5-11,11-8,12-10. Nadia Saini of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women,Sector 26,outpointed Kalyani of Sacred Heart,Sector 26,by 1108,11-8,11-9,11-5 in the youth girls final.
7 th Molly Carver Invitation Cup from Oct 17
The 7 th Molly Carver Invitation Cup which was scheduled to get underway from October 11 has been postponed,and now will take place from October 17 at St Stephen’s School,Sector 45. Desh Prem Azad Cricket Academy and St Stephen’s School,Sector 45,will jointly organise the tournament in which students studying upto class X are eligible to take part. Six teams have already confirmed their participation. The tournament will be played on league-cum-knockout basis The organisers will provide balls to the particpating teams while qualified umpires will be deputed during the matches.
